Arreglo para Octubre 2010 Cumulative Update para SharePoint 2010

En caso que hayas instalado el Octobre 2010 Cumulative Update, quizas hallas tenido suerte y competo correctamente. Pero en caso de que no haya completado correctamente o no estes seguro si completo correctamente es recomendable que efectues los siguientes pasos:

1. Navega a Central Administration
2. Administra Service Applications ( Manage Service Applications )
3. Administra los Permisos de los Usuarios (Manage User Permissions) de el User Profile Service Application
4. Agrega las cuentas que no estan funcionando correctamente ( las cuentas default estaran listadas automaticamente )

Workaround for October 2010 Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010

In case you have already applied the October 2010 Cumulative Update you might either have had luck and not had any issues or it might have left the update in an incomplete state. If you suspect the update did not complete correctly, you will have to:

1. Go to Central Administration
2. Manage Service Applications
3. Manage User Permissions of the User Profile Service Application
4. Add the accounts that are not working correctly ( the default ones will be listed automatically )

SharePoint 2010 and Application Pool Passwords

If by any chance you ran across the need to recover the Application Pool Password(s) in either WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007, they were stored in an unsecure and clear text fashion. Like illustrated nicely in the listed blog postings below:

That has changed in SharePoint Foundation 2010 and SharePoint 2010, the methods in the Object Model have been deprecated. Furthermore, when they are called you receive an error which leads to have to handle it correctly.

That certainly is a step forward to securing the Application Pool Passwords.

ASP.Net MVC 3 Beta Released today!

Today quite a few goodies were released:

• NuPack
• ASP.Net MVC 3 Beta Download
• WebMatrix Beta 2

Very interesting changes in ASP.Net MVC 3, the razor engine is a welcome addition. While it is a different way of coding, it has a hint of the throwing ASP and C# together. A WebGrid has been added to the controls, much needed in my opinion.

Last but not least a roadmap for ASP.Net MVC is available as well.

Fab 40 Templates Updated for SharePoint 2010

The Fabulous 40 Templates were available for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, khalil has done an excellent job in updating these to SharePoint 2010. They are not all fully available yet, but he has quite a few already updated.

Microsoft released on June 29, 2010 the June 2010 Cumulative Updates, they are available for download:

Great Blog Posting of "Advice to Microsoft"

After being in the SharePoint world for 8+ years you end up in a variety of situations in which you love the product, but on the other hand one ends up analyzing work performed by entities in which it really is hard to see or find the "Gold" itself.

A lot of issues like the previously mentioned bring up issues that should be addressed sooner than later to improve SharePoint itself.

The blog posting named "Microsoft - A quick word of advice" is one of my personal favorites because it does highlight and clearly convey genuine issues that Microsoft certainly needs to address.

You can select either 32 or 64 bits.

Installation of Office 2010 RTM

With the recent release of Office 2010 RTM decided to go ahead and un-install the Office 2010 Beta 2, everything seemed to uninstall smoothly except at the end I received a 1402 error indicating that it could not open a specific item in the registry. 

After checking the registry for any problems, found myself still scratching myself without an answer. Decided to be a little risky and force a refresh with secedit, opened the command prompt and typed in:

“secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose”

Once the command completed, attempted the un-installation of Office 2010 Beta 2 once more, this time it was successful.

This might not work for everyone, but in my case it worked great!
